When Shimla Spice opened their new 200 seat restaurant in Shipley , West Yorkshire they required a website that would show their new restaurant off in all its glory!
The site presented many challenges, including creating a virtual tour of the new restaurant and image galleries – not to mention the extensive menus on offer to its customers.
Many restaurants have their menus available as a PDF download , which can be very slow to load if not done correctly – the decision was made to include pure html css driven food menus for fast download and ease of maintenance for changes to the menus over time.
The site was designed in table-less CSS to the latest standards .
I visited the restaurant on 2 occasions to capture the best possible images for use on the new site and on the printed material they were to produce.
The photographs were taken on a Nikon D100 SLR , and panoramic views of the restaurant were made and incorporated into the virtual tours that can be seen on the site. This presented a particular challenge in the way that the lighting shifts colour on the ceilings and the roof at set intervals – so a lot of care had to be taken here!
The end result of the site was praised by the customer as WebDoggy had exceeded the expectations laid out in the initial scope of works .
All updates to the site over the last 3 years have been managed by WebDoggy – and I am currently working on a brand new look for the site using content managed systems to enable the client to be able to update the site frequently with more pictures and news of the latest in house offers!
